Quick Take_Florence

Ciao Firenze!

From Rome, Florence is just an hour and a half on the Frecciarossa (high speed train). You walk out of S.M. Novella station and before you is the birthplace of the Renaissance. Florence is a must see on your trip to Italy and makes for a perfect day trip from Rome, if you don’t have a ton of time. Trust me, though. One day just isn’t enough.

These are my must see sights in Florence:

Piazza del Duomo

The piazza is comprised of the Florence Cathedral (Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore), Giotto’s Bell Tower, the Baptistry of St. John and Opera del Duomo Museum, all in the heart of the city.

Ponte Vecchio

The Ponte Vecchio, which crosses over the Arno River, was believed to have been built in Roman times. It was the only bridge left untouched by the German Army during World Word II. Now the bridge is full of jewellery and souvenir shops.

Michelangelo’s David, located inside the Galleria dell’Accademia, is a sight to behold. Standing at 17 feet tall and built from a single piece of marble, David was originally housed outdoors in the Palazzo della Signora, where a replica stands today. See the original, though. It’s bound to give you goosebumps!

Giardino della Rose

The Rose Garden in Florence is a lovely but, more than that, it offers one of the most stunning views of the city.

I’ll share more sites to see and visit for a longer Florence trip soon!
